Social Services Knowledge Scotland

Social Services Knowledge Scotland (SSKS) has a remit to share knowledge and improve practice across the public sector in Scotland. SSKS features a "Drugs and Alcohol” portal.

The drugs and alcohol portal is one of the specialist areas on SSKS which was developed after a detailed consultation with those working in the field. The aim of the portal is to support day-to-day work and learning by providing a wealth of material covering a variety of topics within drugs and alcohol. This includes a list of legislation, guidelines and key links and tools for a range of topics including: brief interventions, harm reduction, recovery, service improvement and more.

The Scottish Government and NHS Health Scotland have been working with SSKS to rationalise the information contained within this portal, ensuring it is up-to-date and reflective of current policy, evidence base and good practice. We hope this site will act as a user-friendly and valuable resource.

The SSKS site hosts the Driver Diagram service improvement tool which we hope will helpfully assist you when seeking to re-design services at local level and implement Recovery Orientated Systems of Care (ROSC).

Please note that the Driver Diagram should be seen as an evolving tool which will expand as more local-level learning and good practice is identified.

We hope that this portal will helpfully sit alongside and connect to other sites supporting work in the alcohol and drug fields (including, but not limited to, NHS Health Scotland, Scottish Drugs Forum, Alcohol Focus Scotland, Scottish Recovery Consortium, STRADA, SHAAP).
